Tangier, Morocco

Arriving in Tangier by ferry from Spain. If you make this trip be ready for a little culture shock.

The Medina in Tangier, Morocco. The Medina is crazy. It's like going back in time. And if you get a chance to travel to Fez, Morocco, the Medina in Fez is way crazier than the Tangier Medina.

A shop in the Medina, Tangier. When visiting the Medina, beware it's gritty, chaotic and a little intimidating, but that's all part of the experience. This isn't a relaxing, stress free place to be, but you know what, sometimes you need to put yourself out there to experience other cultures. It was great to see, and the people were wonderful.

Near the Kasbah in the Tangier Medina. The wall of the Kasbah is in the background.

The rest of our trip from last year

Ok, are you ready to be go through our whole trip from last year? We started in Lisbon, Portugal and did day trips to Evora and Sintra, then we moved on to Seville, Spain, and did an overnight trip to Granada. From Seville we travelled to Tangier, Morroco, then to Fez, Morroco. From Fez to Barcelona, and then after Barcelona we were all done, which sucks. We could easily continue traveling, but we have jobs we have to get back to. Check out the pictures below.

Lisbon, Portugal

Overlooking the Alfama district of Lisbon, Portugal. The Alfama district is hilly, with lots of very narrow winding roads. It's a great place to walk through the streets and get lost.

The Decorative Arts Museum in Lisbon.

Lisbon is a lot like San Francisco. It has cable cars, like San Francisco. It's very hilly, like San Francisco. The 25 de Abril Bridge is a lot like the Golden Gate bridge, which is all great. The bad.... it has earthquakes like San Francisco.

Being serenaded in the Bairro Alto district of Lisbon.

The Baixa district of Lisbon.

Evora, Portugal

City center of Evora, Portual. Evora is an easy day trip from Lisbon by train. Here's a little trivia: Portugal produces over 50% of the world's cork, and most of that cork comes from the region where Evora is located. Also, there is no cork shortage. The cork is basically bark and is pulled from the tree every 9 years or so, but the tree isn't harmed. Cork usage is important to the economy of this region.

The Capela dos Ossos, or the Capel of the Bones is located in the Church of St. Fancis in Evora.

Yes, those are all human bones and skulls.

Remember that little tidbit about cork from above? Here I am in my styling cork hat. Party!!!

The Igreja Sao Joao church in Evora.

Sintra, Portugal

The town of Sintra. An easy day trip from Lisbon is the small town of Sintra and Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. The park contains palaces, castles, ruins and gardens.

Seville, Spain

Inside the Real Alcazar in Seville. This is the oldest royal palace in Europe that is still in use.

The Seville Cathedral, also known as the Catedral de Santa María de la Sede.

Yummy! Yummy! Yum, Yum! Luckily we walk, on average, 10 miles a day when we are traveling, because I am constantly stuffing my face with delicious Gelato.

Granada, Spain

Tangier, Morocco

Here is another picture from Tangier. There are more Tangier pictures at the top of this page.

The streets of Tangier.

Fez, Morocco

Megan with our guide at the Lingresso principale del Palazzo Reale in Fez. In all our travels, this was the only time we had a guide, but it was well worth it. We would have been totally lost in the Medina. The travel books we read recommended getting a guide for the Medina.

The leather tannery in the Fez Medina.

Smelling mint at the leather tannery in the Fez Medina. Mint is handed out to the visitors to cover the smell of the pigeon poop and cow urine, which are used to process the hides. The process used in the Fez tanneries has barely change since medieval times.

Silk weaving using a loom.

Purchasing some Argan oil in the Medina. If you don't know how Argan oil is processed, search YouTube for "Argan tree goats of Morocco" and be amazed.

Barcelona, Spain

Here we are at the Joan Miro museum. I'm defintley NOT an art aficionado, far far from it, but I thought the art in this musuem was way cool.

The Gaudi designed cathedral, Sagrada Familia. Expected completion is 2026, which is the 100 year anniversary of Gaudis death, but they still have a lot to do.

When in Spain, Tapas are a must.
