In Munich .... What?

So much to say ..... Hmm, where to start, uh, ok, so we were delayed about 3 hours leaving Reno (mechanical problems, then a runway freeze due to Air Force One landing) which caused us to miss our first connection from SFO to Heathrow. They couldn't rebook us until the next day, so we spent the night in San Francisco.

The next day, our flights were from SFO to New Jersey, then onto Munich, then to Helsinki. So all is kind of good, but we were gonna lose a day....whatever. Also, they upgraded us to business class (UNLIMITED DRINKS, GOOD FOOD AND A FULL LAY DOWN BED... PARTY!) on our New Jersey to Munich flight due to losing a day.

We got to New Jersey ok, and onto our connection ok, which was headed to Munich, then Helsinki. Here's where it gets real fun. We spent 8 hours on the tarmac driving from the gate, to getting in line for taking off 3 times, back and forth, back and forth. The plane was having mechanical issues. People on the plane were pissed, PISSED! The only saving grace for us was we were in business class, so they were pouring us champagne the whole time.

So, due to the second delay we missed our next connecting flight. We ended up spending 2 nights in Munich and rebooked our flight to Tallinn instead of Helsinki. So we spent a day in Munich. And oh yes there is one more thing, my bag didn't show up in Munich when we did. It was still in New Jersey.

We left Wednesday morning from Reno and I didn't see my bag again until Saturday night, so I was in the same smelly, stinky clothes until I got United to give me $150 to buy new clothes and toiletries from the shops at the Munich airport. Luckily Megan's bag made it to Munich when we did.

So now it is Sunday morning and we are flying to Tallinn. So here are some pictures from Munich, where we weren't suppose to be, but you won't see any pictures from Helsinki, because we aren't gonna make it there. It's all good. We are on vacation. You have to go with flow.

In summary, due to 2 missed connections it took us about 48 hours travel time to get to Europe, instead of 24 hours. We ended up in a city we didn't plan on visiting (Munich, instead of Helsinki) and I didn't have my luggage. And I didn't get into all the ugly details of calling, cancelling hotels, changing flights, tracking down my luggage, etc.
